OK, so it’s a couple of years old, but in 2005, a national survey was conducted of small business owners’ top concerns.
Apparently, the threat of lawsuits was not among them. Rather, the majority focused more on bottom line issues. According to the Wage Law Weblog, small business owners deemed the following to be the biggest threats to their businesses: (1) Rising inflation, 44 percent; (2) The trade deficit and a weak dollar, 40 percent; (3) Energy shortages, 40 percent; (4) Excessive household and/or corporate debt, 29 percent; (5) The growing federal deficit, 28 percent; (6) Poorly prepared labor force/Shortage of skilled labor, 27 percent. Fears of terrorism were noted by only 11% of respondents, even below a catchall category of ‘other’ (at 13%).
